Signature Experience – Undara Lava Tubes

Embark on the Archway Explorer tour through the mysterious Undara Lava Tubes. Be guided through the mesmerising lava tubes, the result of a volcanic eruption that spewed molten lava down a dry riverbed. The outer layer formed a crust, and when the lava below drained away, a series of long, hollow tubes remained.

  • 4 Day 4: Cobbold Gorge

An exploration of Cobbold Gorge awaits today, hidden within a rugged sandstone formation. A jewel in the Gulf Savannah, learn about its ancient geological formations. This afternoon, join your guide for a boat cruise and tour. As your boat meanders through the narrow waterways of the gorge, be sure to keep an eye out for freshwater crocodiles.

  • 5 Day 5: Croydon, Karumba

Journey to the historic goldrush town of Croydon and visit the True Blue Interactive Information Centre, home to an array of heritage items and sculptures. Continue to Karumba and end your day with a special Signature Experience.

Enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise in Karumba and indulge in a selection of local king prawns as you take in the sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria.

  • 6 Day 6: Karumba, Burketown, Hell's Gate

Depart Karumba and travel towards Normanton, stopping at Camp 119, which marks the northernmost campsite of explorers Burke and Wills during their 1861 expedition. From here, journey on to Hells Gate Roadhouse, where you’ll settle in for the evening. Enjoy a hearty Outback dinner

  • 7 Day 7: Borroloola, Lorella Springs Wilderness Park

Fly from Hell’s Gate to Borroloola, a remote Outback town known for its rich Aboriginal heritage and rugged landscapes. From there, continue on to the iconic Lorella Springs Wilderness Park, a sprawling one-million-acre working cattle station and true Outback sanctuary. The property is a remarkable tapestry of landscapes, from sweeping open savannah and dense woodland forests to coastal floodplains, salt flats, and vibrant mangrove ecosystems. Here, the natural beauty of northern Australia unfolds in every direction, offering a sense of space and wilderness that is both awe-inspiring and unforgettable.

Signature Experience – Scenic Flight Over the Lost City

Take to the skies on a helicopter flight over the Lost City, made up of incredible sandstone formations. Said to be more than 500 million years old, the unique formations of the Lost City resemble the ruins of an ancient city, with a maze of narrow alleys.

      Robyn & Russell
We would highly recommend this rail trip to anyone. From the Rain Forest to the outback of Far North Queensland this is an experience no one should miss! Superb scenery, Leigh & Will fantastic tour guides / rail-car drivers, excellent accommodation & good food. We will be booking another trip on Gulflander & Savannahlander hopefully if available for early next year. The pristine Cobbold Gorge was perhaps the highlight of our trip due to the serenity & picture-perfect gorge. Again, thanks Will & Leigh – will see you again.

The small group, comfortable travel and easy support of the tour director and driver made the trip a happy experience for the participants. Each place visited had plenty to see and do with a range of interests catered for. Having nights free was a bonus for the range of people on the tour.
